Local Animal Service Agencies Seek to Increase Return-to-Owner Rate in 2010 WCTV20.01.10 CITY OF TALLAHASSEE NEWS RELEASE: City of Tallahassee Animal Services and the Leon County Humane Society, along with a group of concerned citizens, have teamed up to address the problem of stray and lost pets in our community. To aid in this endeavor, an online survey has been created to gauge what citizens currently would do if they lost/found a pet. The anonymous survey is available at http://tinyurl.com/rtopets . As much as pet owners love their animals, too many pets end up lost or stray and never make it back home. In 2009, less than 10 percent of the 11,470 animals that came through the doors of the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) were reunited with their families. Only 1,035 animals were returned to their owners, while nearly 7,000 animals (more than 60 percent) were listed as strays upon intake at the ASC. With the help of the City’s Animal Services Advisory Board, a Return to Owner Committee has been formed to look at ways to increase the rate of return. They hope the survey results will help identify ways local animal services agencies can improve their methods of reuniting lost pets and their owners as well as increase the percentage of returns in 2010. Here are some tips from Animal Services to help prevent your pet from becoming lost. · Tags save lives – Always keep current identification and rabies tags on your pet’s collar. Update the information as soon as possible if you move or your phone number changes. · Permanent ID – Have your local veterinarian or Animal Services microchip your pet as a backup should the collar or tags become lost. ![]() I need help coming up with a hobby for my grandmother. Bringing guinea pig to Hawaii...?Mar 26, 2009 by Horse L | Posted in Honolulu I have a guinea pig and I don't understand if I can bring her to Hawaii with me. I am not visiting, I am poignant. I know gerbils, hamsters, and ferrets are not allowed, but nothing was said of rabbits, mice, or rats. What would it get? What are the regulations? Is there a form (I have seen the cat/dog one) I can publish out for misc. pets? Thanks! Where can I get a large enough birdcage?Mar 26, 2009 by film maker | Posted in Birds I am a cloud student, and I am buying a birdcage, but NOT for the advantage of putting a bird in. I need a considerable cockatoo or macaw cage, but it needs to be big enough to fit a filly. In my movie, a teenage girl gets captured by a rare bird art-lover and imprisoned in a birdcage. The reason why is because she frees the connoisseur's pet cockatoo which he only exploits for mean purposes. The bird collector gets mad and shoves the stuff into the cockatoo's birdcage and, (to add a insignificant innocent sex appeal), forces the betrothed to wear a bikini while in the cage. should i get an affenpinscher or then EnV 2?Mar 26, 2009 by Dog | Posted in Dogs i have been wanting a new dog for a while and i have hated my samsung glyde and was gona get a new phone
you already asked this, what was fiendish with those answers. I think they were all pretty angelic.

Pet Airways: Forget Cargo, Your Pet Needs To Fly First ClassFlying your pets isn’t fun. A few airlines allow small pets on airplanes if they fit under the seat. But most of the time they’re stuck in the cargo hold and come with the rest of the baggage. The one time I flew my dog Laguna she arrived in Seattle shaking and covered in her own feces. Must have been a blast for her. If you are rich enough you can bring them on your own private jet. Another trick is to have your animal certified as a “service animal,” (you can even do this online ) and I hear you can then take them just about anywhere. It’s a loophole that is sure to be plugged once too many people take advantage of it. Enter Pet Airways , a new startup launching next month that flies pets and only pets: Fees start at $150. Sadly, only your pet can fly, not you (they won’t even put you in the cargo area of the plane). Flights will be limited to start , basically from Los Angeles to the East coast with stops in Denver and Chicago. The company says they’re funded but aren’t giving details yet. Each flight has a pet attendant on board at all times, and the airline will start with a fleet of twenty planes, ranging from twin props to 727s. I have no idea if this airline is going to be a commercial success, but I’m hopeful. If they start flying from San Francisco to Seattle, Laguna will be a regular customer. And I’d pay a lot more than $150. Source: TechCrunch Pet articles
